Media_a local newspaper got a office explosion

Ming Pao, one of the oldest newspaper in Hong Kong, had one of its editorial office exploding at 2:50 after receiving a parcel. A secretary was injured and send to the hospital. A letter in the parcel asked the newspaper to send 30 million to an account in a non-profit organization in Hong Kong.

Terrorism visited Hong Kong??? Or what?

Amy, I was really shocked when I heard about this -- I didn't read any HK-newspapers yesterday.
I don't see this as a terrorist's attack. And I also somehow don't agree with any comments about "trying to silence the press in HK through use of violence". Taking into account the letter of the culprit and the size of the (rather small) explosive device -- I'd say this was some kind of blackmail "only". Who knows, maybe its more tied to organised crime than to any political stuff...

But its terrible nontheless these things have to happen, its really a shame. Hope they'll catch that loony.

Seems the world is not that peaceful. See Paris, crazy place now. i couldn't imagine such a romantic place is now full of fires and explodings. Just quick look at the news, but haven't got the reason for the bizzar. Anyone have idea??

Lutz, seems you live pretty near there, take care

Amy, yep, the things in France are really quite insane. But keep in mind that the french people have a long history of violent demonstrations -- this is how their republic was founded. And their law still claims this as one of their base rights (but for sure not injuring people and destroying property). So it happens quite often: when you're hearing about demonstrations in France its usually attached to burning stuff...

In this case it seems to be only a minor reason that was the last straw to raise the roof. IMHO its a result of keeping all those immigrants in some suburbian ghetto with no chance to live a decent life, coupled with the usual french connection to violent demos...

...dunno such thing wouldn't happen in Germany. Germans are quite different in that aspect -- so no need to worry. Seems like you're much closer to danger as being a journalist in HK, eh?
